Portfolio: Lotus Domino.doc expert product review & usability testing

Domino.doc is Lotus' document management tool. They knew that users had a lot of problems with the previous version. We started from scratch with a series of brainstorming sessions that got to the core of the product – who were the users and what did they really need to do?

There were a lot of user model problems in the existing product, too much of the software architecture showed through and made users understand things that meant nothing to them. We got rid of those problems and made overall navigation easier.

Usability testing and expert product review. I started out by doing an expert review and a usability study. These showed where the major problems were and led to the design work described below.

Redesign the entire product for increased usability. I brought in a graphic designer to define color, layout and an overall visual design for the product that included product and corporate branding. This new design gives easy access to all of the documents you're working with without making you understand how the software was written.

The design was based on marketing requirements, our brainstorming and my evaluation.
